County Courthouse Sees Anti-Abortion Rally

It's a debate that has spurred controversy even before the Supreme Court issued a landmark 'pro-choice' ruling in 1973, and that controversy landed in Pitt County Saturday.

The Supreme Court issued its landmark "Roe versus Wade" abortion rights decision legalizing abortions during a woman's first six months of pregnancy. The ruling recognized abortion as a constitutional right, overturning individual states' laws against abortion. In Pitt County Saturday dozens of religious leaders and some local politicians rallied at the county courthouse protesting the 32 year ruling. Congressman Walter B. Jones spoke about a 'pro-life' bill re-introduced to the house for the 4th time this year called the "Unborn Child Act."
