Academic Troubles Have Some ECU Players Sidelined

Some East Carolina University student athletes can run the ball well, or even sink that game winning shot, but in the classroom they're struggling to get good grades.

Recently two East Carolina University football players, as well as a few players from the women's basketball team, have been reported as not being enrolled for Spring semester because they are academically ineligible.

Athletic Director Terry Holland says it's up to student athletes to stay on top of their education. We asked Holland if poor academic grades by certain football players helped cause former coach John Thompson to lose his job. Holland replied that every coach at the university cared for their athlete's academic performance.
