Who Owns The Beach?

Did you know public beaches in our state are defined as anything below the high tide line?

It's expected rising ocean levels will likely push the high-tide line along our coast more inland. So what happens when private oceanfronts erode, and what's the line between public and private property rights?

Those are some of the issues addressed in Greenville this week, at the coastal resources commission meeting. Officials are working to prepare for the future through beach and inlet management plans, discussing sand ownership and rights of access, as well as land use plans.
