"Project Care"

Thousands of Marines and Sailors are leaving Eastern Carolina with military plans to help Iraq. And now, the hometown of those troops is dusting off its own battle plans to help on the homefront. Jacksonville's Chamber of Commerce, along with government leaders and top generals from Camp Lejeune announced the re-activation of "Project Care." That's the support plan to help the troops, as well as military families and local businesses here. "Project Care" began after the first Gulf war, Desert Storm, when thousands of military families left town, taking business with them. But, the effort is now focused on putting those in need with someone who can help them through tough times ahead. The success of "Project Care" in Jacksonville since 9/11 has made it a model for other military hometowns across America.
