What Kind of Safety Laws Exist for Children on Motorcycles?

As North Carolina tightens child safety seat laws, what kind of laws exist for children riding on the back of motorcycles or pickup trucks?

According to the State Highway Patrol, there is currently no age limit for motorcycle passengers, but everyone on a motorcycle must wear a department of transportation approved helmet.

As for pickup trucks, children under the age of 12 can ride in the bed of a pick up as long as there is a responsible adult riding in the back with them. Many safety organizations would like to see this practice stopped.

Motorcycle companies say there are harnesses available to use on smaller children or even side passenger cars that can be attached to motorcycles.
