Building Up the Beach

Tax money is being re-invested to keep tourists coming back by making sure they have a beach to walk on. Carteret County's beachfront is getting new sand from three major projects this winter.

One project is being paid for by the Army Corps of Engineers. They're pumping sand from Beaufort Channel and the Morehead City State port out to the beach at Fort Macon State park.

Tie that work into two other projects putting millions of yards of new sand on Bogue Banks, and some see it as insurance for the county's future.

A third project to straighten Bogue Inlet and pump new sand on to Emerald Isle's beach will begin in weeks.
