Eastern Carolinians are pouring out their love to help victims of mother natures deadly tsunami in Asia, but making a donation can be a tough decision for the giver when finding the right organization to give to.
Better Business Bureau officials are urging charitable givers to be on the look out since more that 80 percent of funds raised by charities come directly from individuals. They've listed some safe donating tips on their website at www.bbbenc.org to help you find ways to give. Their first tip for charitable giving: Don't give cash -- many times it's not traceable. Secondly, keep records of your gifts through receipts and bank statements. And lastly, be leery of charity names that mimic already well established nonprofit organizations.
Another good tip... double check the organization's history. You can do that by contacting the North Carolina Better Business Bureau.
