Southport is home to a lot of cats -- too many to suit some locals.
Some residents say they're seeing too many and they say the animals are becoming a nuisance and possibly a health concern.
After complaints about the cats flooded city hall, City Attorney
Mike Isenberg drafted a proposed ordinance amendment, most of which was taken from Brunswick County's rules. The ordinance includes a ban on feeding feral cats and a requirement to collar and register pets.
But after a roomful of angry cat lovers crowded the board of aldermen's meeting room, they decided to table the issue until the
new board is sworn in Dec. 13.
