Rocky Mount Highway Patrol says three motorists died when an Amtrak train collided with a car in
Edgecombe County near Rocky Mount. Authorities say the accident happened Saturday
night just after 11 P-M when a car darted out from a line of traffic and tried to pass through the crossing arms when it was hit by the train. One other person in the car also was
injured and was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Authorities say no one aboard the train was injured. The investigation continues.
