Pedro Flies to the Rescue

A Craven County resident may owe his life to the Pedro helicopter. Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point's search and rescue helicopter, Pedro, responded to a request from the Craven County Sheriff's Office on Thursday, to transport a severely injured pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle on Highway 70 in James City. Civilian medical helicopters were initially requested, but were unable to fly because of the weather conditions at the time. Pedro was on scene within 30 minutes and flew the patient, with massive head trauma and multiple fractures, to Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
