From WITN-7 First Alert Weather... A winter storm warning is in effect for Duplin, Greene, Lenoir, Martin, Pitt, Wayne, Wilson, Nash, Edgecombe, Northampton and Halifax counties from 4 a.m. Sunday to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The National Weather Service forecasts freezing rain, snow and sleet
late Saturday night through Sunday. Forecasters believe the main hazard will be ice accumulation in the more southern counties, while the more northern counties could see substantial snow accumulation.

Meanwhile, a winter weather advisory is in effect for Beaufort, Craven, Jones, Onslow, Bertie, Hertford, Gates and Washington counties for the same time period, 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Forecasters believe a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow will develop along the Highway 17 corridor late Saturday and continue into Sunday, and that some ice accumulation can be expected. The freezing rain is expected to be along and west of Jacksonville, Washington and Plymouth.
