Some school officials want to get better grades in school bus safety.
U.S. Transportation secretary Mary Peters visited Morrisville near Raleigh to propose seat belts on buses. Peters also says increasing the height of the of the seat back by 4 inches will help protect kids in an accident.
Peters says states should have the option of using federal
highway safety funds to retrofit its buses with seat belts. She did
not, however, offer any new money to cover those costs.
