Outgoing Jacksonville Mayor Reflects On Tenure

By  |

The city of Jacksonville is about to see a shift in power as a new mayor will soon take the helm.

Former television anchor Jan Slagle has served two terms for the city. She told us today, she wanted to be mayor simply for the love of the people, and the love for the military.

Mayor Slagle, who did not seek a third term, does realize that the new city council and mayor will face a lot of work, and unfinished business. She says the influx of 40,000 more Marines and their families will be the biggest challenge. But she says the people in the county have made her job so worthwhile.

Mayor elect Sammy Phillips will take office the first week in December.
