State health officials are investigating numerous cases of E-coli infection across our state.
Health officials have confirmed two dozen cases of infection and say the common link appears to be the petting zoo exhibit from the North Carolina State Fair. Health officials recommend washing your hands with anti-bacterial soap after spending any time around farm animals.
Roxanne Holloman, director of the Beaufort County Health Department, says the bacteria comes from the animal feces. Holloman also wants to remind people that petting farm animals isn't the only way to catch the bacteria. You can also get it from contaminated food, so make sure to use safety precaution in the kitchen as well.
