UPS announced it will raise rates by 4.9 percent in 2008 for ground shipments and by 6.9 percent for air express and international shipments. The Atlanta-based company raised rates by the same amount a year ago. The news comes only a week after competitor fed-ex announced a similar rate increase on packages shipped by air. The new rates become effective on December 31st.
