The 14-year-old Columbia High School student charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of her newborn twins had a juvenile court hearing with her family Wednesday.

The teen and her family were in court to discuss whether she could be released until trial.
The judge denied that request.

The defendant is scheduled for a probable cause hearing in Martin County on Tuesday, December 28. The teen is charged with second-degree murder after authorities say she gave birth to twins in her bathtub on December 6, and then dropped them out of the bathroom window, resulting in their deaths.

The district attorney's office says a decision on trying the juvenile as an adult will be made after the investigation is completed.
