Matthew Lewis of Pitt County spent his 94th birthday working at the polls. He says there's no place else he'd rather be.
Lewis started Election Day 2004 like every other one he's worked since 1977 - early. Lewis arrived at the precinct at 5:30 in the morning to get ready and greet some of the early voters.
Aside from being a regular fixture at the polls, Lewis was principal of Stokes Elementary in Pitt County for over 44 years.
