Two Police Officers Charged With Destroying Evidence in Murder Case

The Plymouth police chief and one of his captains are charged with destroying evidence in a 2003 murder case. The District Attorney formally charged the two men Monday.

A Washington County grand jury indicted Plymouth Police Chief John Floyd and Captain Preston Ward with altering evidence in a criminal case. Both officers have been placed on temporary suspension.

Prosecutors say in 2003, Plymouth resident Candi Belcher was stabbed to death by her then boyfriend, Moynmen Munnelyn. Munnelyn admitted to killing Belcher.

One piece of evidence collected form the murder scene was a bloody sheet. Chief Floyd is accused of instructing Captain Ward to dispose of the sheets since they had a confession in the case.
