Updated: Thu 8:37 PM, Dec 16, 2004

The challenges continue over a special election planned for January in Carteret County. A Wake County judge is hearing complaints filed by the three candidates.

Britt Cobb wants the special election blocked and a new statewide election in the agriculture commissioner race.

Steve Troxler, the candidate who is currently leading, is questioning who can vote in the Carteret County election. He wants only those 4,000 or so who had a vote lost in a machine malfunction to cast their ballots.

Meanwhile, Bill Fletcher, Republican candidate for state superintendent of public instruction, wants the court to block certification of the November results in his race, and add it to the Carteret ballot.
