Trial Date For Former Sheriff

A trial date has been set in the embezzlement case against the former Washington County Sheriff who was arrested in August after prosecutors say he took nearly $2,700 to keep a military inmate in jail. Stanley James will go before a judge January 24, 2005, after a grand jury indicted him on embezzlement, obstruction of justice and conspiracy charges nearly three months ago. Prosecutors also say James took several thousand additional dollars from county law enforcement , and money for a local banquet. Former chief jailer John Wrighton was also indicted on three related charges.
