A Raleigh man is in the Craven County jail, accused of robbing a couple last night.

Police say it happened on Roosevelt Boulevard in Havelock. The man and woman told police as they were leaving their car, an armed man approached them and demanded money. The victims told police they saw the gunman get into a Ford Mustang, providing police with the license plate number.

A short time later police spotted the car and tried to stop the vehicle. A chase ended up on U.S. 70 where other police agencies assisted Havelock police. Eventually they say the suspect jumped out of the vehicle and was caught after a foot chase.

Markie Jones is charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and speeding to elude arrest. He's in jail on a $75,000 bond.
