If you own a car or truck that's 1996 or newer, beginning January 1 of next year, it will cost you more for an inspection. It's part of North Carolina's new auto emissions testing program.
According to the state Department of Natural Resources, the cost of a vehicle inspection will go up from about $9 to just over $23 for the new emissions testing.
As of January 1, 2005, Edgecombe, Lenoir, Nash, Pitt, Robeson, Wayne and Wilson Counties will be required to perform auto emissions testing.
