State House Speaker Joe Hackney is appointing a committee to study the rising number of foreclosures in North Carolina.
The committee will study the causes of home foreclosures and how
governments should help people keep their homes. It will also
investigate whether the real estate industry is contributing to the
The 20-member panel will provide a preliminary report at the
beginning of next year's General Assembly session and the committee
will submit a final report at the end of 2008.
Hackney is a Democrat from Orange County. He named Democratic
Reps. Dan Blue of Wake County and Walter Church of Mecklenburg
County to serve as co-chairs of the committee.
