A Kinston teenager and her grandmother are still missing. But there's new information about a cell phone call for help.
Authorities have been combing rivers and ponds in Lenoir County since 58-year-old Gail Haddock Dail called her husband's home in Kinston at 3 a.m. Tuesday and asked for help. That was the last reported contact.
Dail and her granddaughter, 15-year-old Heather Lynn Roberts, were said to be on a trip to Virginia when that call came in. Now, police say the call was connected to two towers in the Kinston area that only have a range of 10 miles each.
The search has been called off. Authorities have put alert notices in both our state and Virginia, and the minivan's description has been uploaded to the national database.
Heather is familiar to many in the East because she is a Children's Miracle Network child.
