The Leandro Lawsuit Swings Money to Poor Counties

It's a case that changed the face and definition of education in our state - the Leandro lawsuit.

Ten years ago, a Hoke County student sued the state for not providing all the necessary tools to get a good education in poor districts.

Just this past summer, a $10 million settlement was reached. Hyde County, one of 16 counties, is getting $167,000 of that money to improve education and there may be more money on the way.

Governor Mike Easley says he may override the General Assembly and alter the state budget to give more money to these poor school systems to the tune of over $200 million.
