Authorities say a pit bull, severely injured in a dogfight, died on its way to the veterinarian's office.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Department says a Crimestoppers tip led them to a sickening scene over the weekend on Fredrick Road in Chocowinity. They say they found the dog hooked up to intravenous fluids in efforts to revive him after being involved in the dogfight. They say they also found a dogfighting ring and a treadmill to condition the dogs.

Sheriff Alan Jordan says eight people from three states have been arrested in the case. Those arrested have been jailed on $5,000 bond.
