It didn't take long for Pitt County lawmen to find the vehicle they believe was used in a hit and run incident, that took the life of 16-year-old Michael Devon Staton Saturday evening.

Thanks to some tips, the car was found late Monday morning hidden down a trail off Shepherd Mill Pond Road in Stokes. Investigators say the vehicle has extensive damage.

The incident happened on Old River Road just after six Saturday evening. Lawmen say Staton and a friend were walking along the road when a car coming from behind them crossed both lanes and struck the teen.

Chief Lee Moore with the Pitt County's Sheriff's office says the public was real instrumental in leading them to the vehicle. No arrests have been made.
