Greenville Event Honors Fallen Soldier

By  |

An event in Pitt County next month honors a local soldier who died in Iraq.

Christopher Cash was a captain in the Army National Guard. He was killed in a firefight with Iraqi insurgents in June 2004. Cash was from Winterville. He was a father, a husband and a much-loved member of his community.

On December 2, the North Carolina National Guard will sponsor the third annual "Dash for Cash" road race in Greenville. All proceeds go to support a scholarship fund at North Carolina Wesleyan College.

The event starts at the Town Commons in Greenville. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. race day. There will be a 5K walk/run and a 10-mile run. For more information, e-mail dashforcash@suddenlink.net or call 252-531-4241.
