Nags Head a Really Safe City

The town of Nags Head has gained statewide recognition for its level of employee safety.

The town began a working relationship with the North Carolina Department of Labor a couple years ago, and has now received a sharp level certification. It's a level of health and safety management usually attained by private sector companies. Nags Head is the only municipality in the state to achieve sharp status. Public service employees like firemen and police face unexpected dangers from day to day, whereas private company employees generally work in a more controlled environment. Making the certification a tougher accomplishment for towns to attain. Nags Head Safety Engineer Kevin Zork says it's been a town wide effort.

Nags Head reduced their number of employee accidents in half over last year. With only 4 such accidents in 2004.
