Jacksonville's military and civilian communities once again came together Saturday morning, to honor heroes who left 21 years ago as peacekeepers, but never came back to Camp Lejeune.
As they have done since the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing, marines and civilians gathered for a memoiral service befitting those 273 men, whose names are now carved into the Beirut Memoiral wall in Jacksonville. The formal wreathlaying and memoiral service followed much the same script, but always evokes emotions from families and friends of those marines, sailors and soldiers honored.
