Thursday's a big day for people who support and oppose the Navy's proposed Outlying Landing Field. It's the day the Navy has said they'll announce which sites they'll continue to pursue for an OLF.
The Navy's preferred site remains Washington and Beaufort Counties. Stiff opposition from people who live there and elected officials has forced the Navy to consider other sites. The Navy announced 17 possible sites in both North Carolina and Virginia. Thursday's planned announcement should cut the choices from 17 to as few as three to as many as six. Five of the 17 sites are in Virginia; 11 are in North Carolina.
