Name Pulled Out Of Flower Pot Decides Race

A race in last week's election was decided today when the winner's name was pulled out of a flower pot.

It happened in Pamlico County for an open seat on the Oriental town board.

After Tuesday night's counting, Candy Bohmert and Barb Venturi were tied. Today Bohmert won after the two candidates decided to have the winner's name drawn, rather than recount the votes.

In Pink Hill, incumbent town commissioner Carol Sykes will keep her seat on the town board.

Sykes picked up two more votes in today's canvass to edge out Donald King.
