A Craven County inmate who was part of a work release program was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by several vehicles.

Troopers identify the victim as 43-year-old George William Foy of James City. Authorities say he attempted to cross the multiple lane eastbound Business 70 outside of New Bern when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Craven County attorney James Sugg.

Foy was then thrown into the path of two oncoming cars. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say no charges will be filed.
