Marine Captured After Manhunt

A four hour manhunt ended with military and civilian lawmen capturing a New River Air Station Marine wanted for stealing military gear.

The chase took place in Verona, just south of Jacksonville. Members of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service at Camp Lejeune joined military police and Onslow sheriff deputies, when Herbert Velez fled into nearby woods.

Canine units and deputies fanned out and caught Velez just after 1:00 p.m. The Marine is accused of stealing night vision goggles and body armor.
