Lawmen Say No Signs of Shooter or Shooting in Kinston

There’s a bizarre ending to a major incident for law enforcement officials in Kinston Saturday night.

Authorities say they've come up empty handed after receiving reports around 9 p.m. Saturday night of what was believed to be gunshots being fired near the Hampton Inn on Highway 258 and Highway 70 in Kinston.

Lawmen evacuated the first four floors of the hotel around 10 p.m. Saturday night. Evacuees were then escorted to a nearby restaurant where they waited for about two hours. Officials say those people were then bussed to another hotel in Kinston.

Emergency officials surveyed the scene until 4:30 Sunday morning and have no new leads. Folks staying in the Hampton Inn were permitted back in the hotel a little before 5 a.m. Sunday morning. Lawmen say no injuries were reported.
