It's a device that can save lives, especially for a person suffering from a heart attack and time is of the essence.
The Chocowinity EMS uses an Automated External Defibrillator inside their trucks. It can jump start the heart whenever someone suffers from a heart attack.
On Saturday, rescue workers held their first Barbecue and Chicken Fundraiser at their EMS station. It's all to raise the necessary cash to purchase a brand new device.
"We haven't purchased a new one since we've been here in 2000 and it's taken its wear and tear." says Chocowinity Captain Tiffney Bland, "and we applied for a grant to pay for half of it which the defibrillator is about 15 thousand dollars and we're hoping through different fundraiser to raise half of it."
Captain Bland says she hoped they could sell close to four hundred dinners to reach their goal.
Although she says they may have fell short of that goal, they plan to hold a Christmas Tree Fundraiser at the end of this month to hopefully make up the difference.
