Wayne County deputies have now closed the book on the case of the stolen sheep with an arrest.

Early Sunday morning, Annabelle was stolen from the Governor Charles B. Aycock Birthplace outside of Freemont. She was recovered on Halloween on Bartlett Road in Pikeville.

Now, thanks to tips investigators have arrested David Smith of Bartlett Road. Deputies say Smith told them he was planning on eating Annabelle.

The 45 year old Smith was charged with one count of felony pursuing or injuring livestock with the intent to steal. He's in the Wayne County jail on a $1500 bond.
