Sunday's deadly blaze points out the challenges our coastal firefighters face working to put out these massive blazes.
Monday we talked to Chief Adam Snyder with the Atlantic Beach Fire Department. He's someone who is no stranger to beach blazes. He says the whipping beach winds, are a huge challenge in beach fires. He also says the homes are closer together making it easier for flames to spread, and burn faster since many of the homes are built completely out of wood.
Snyder also says homes along the beach are not required by law to sprinkler systems. It's only required in duplex's and multi-family units. The home in Ocean Isle, did not have system.
