Students representing the Democratic party at East Carolina University are accusing their Republican classmates of unfair voter registration practices.
The Democratic side says the Republicans refuse to allow non-Republican students to register to vote at their registration drive table. They also say that the Republican box on the form is already pre-checked, and fear anyone crossing that out and putting their own party of choice will have their forms thrown out. Republican spokespeople say they've done nothing wrong, and would never turn anyone away. A verbal complaint was placed at the Pitt County Board of Elections by the Democrats.
Election officials say it is okay for a party to hand out registrations that are pre-checked.
