Autumn Brings Closings Of Many Mountain Facilities

Many of the Smokey Mountain National Park's facilities will be shutting down for the winter.

The first closings will be Balsam Mountain and Heintooga roads. Both will close Thursday.

Other routes will close throughout the month, the last being Clingman's Dome and the Roaring Fork Motor Tour on December 1st.

U.S. 441 between Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and Cherokee, North Carolina, will be open all year, along with Little River Road between Gatlinburg and Townsend.

Smaller self-registration campgrounds close Thursday. Elkmont campground closes December 1st. Cades Cove and Smokemont
become self-registration with a limited number of campsites as of
Thursday, but both will remain open all winter.
