Hanesbrands Third Quarter Profit Falls

Underwear and hosiery maker Hanesbrands says third-quarter net income fell 23 percent.

The Winston-Salem company says profits were hurt by lower underwear sales and costs related to last year's separation from former parent Sara Lee.

Hanesbrands says it earned nearly 40 million dollars, or 40 cents a share in the third quarter. That compares with earnings of just over 50 million dollars, or 52 cents per share, for the same time last year.

Revenue increased about 3 percent, to 1.15 billion dollars
