Democrat John Edwards is speaking up for hunting and fishing rights in a western Iowa appearance.
The former North Carolina senator says he wants to improve public access to America's natural beauty and its back country. And he is calling for a stronger National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management as well as private land conservation.
Edwards also proposes reducing mercury pollution in lakes and streams by 90 percent. He says hunters and fishermen could be recruited to help develop wildlife management plans.
