Former Sailor, Assistant DA To Run For McHenry's Seat

Double amputee and former sailor Daniel Johnson is planning to challenge Republican congressman Patrick McHenry next year.

Johnson will be competing with 64-year-old Steve Ivester for the Democratic nomination.

Johnson is a Navy veteran who lost both legs while rescuing another sailor on a ship in 1999. The 31-year-old has been an assistant prosecutor in Wake County and recently moved to his native Hickory to run for office.

McHenry has won the 2004 and 2006 elections by wide margins.
