Six Red Cross workers from the Beaufort County chapter are among the many from eastern Carolina assisting evacuees of the devastating California wildfires.
Bruce Jarvah is one of the volunteers who arrived in San Diego Wednesday. He says he could see the fires raging as the plane he was on headed into San Diego.
Jarvah is now in a shelter set up at a high school assisting hundreds of evacuees. He plans to be there for the next three weeks.
The Red Cross volunteers are providing food, shelter and counseling to all of those displaced. Jarvah says they're trying to fill the void as best they can for people who have lost everything.
