North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue called the Tarheel State "America's Military Base," as she urged one of the top Department of Defense officials to spare bases in a realignment and closure process.

She spoke at the Committee of 100’s annual meeting in New Bern along with Secretary Raymond Dubois from the U.S. Department of Defense. Perdue told Dubois that military bases in North Carolina should be kept up and running and not fall victim to base realignment and closure. Dubois says there are no promises as to which bases will be spared.
