Former Lawmaker Apologizes, Defamation Lawsuit Dropped

Former state legislator Stephen LaRoque is settling a defamation lawsuit by apologizing for comments he made about another former lawmaker.

LaRoque also agreed to pay attorney's fees for former state legislator Art Pope. That's according to Pope.

Pope sued in September 2006 and alleged that LaRoque said in media interviews that Pope was buying legislators.

The case had been scheduled for trial this December, but Pope says he is happy to accept the apology and move forward.
