Over 700 properties in West Greenville have been classified as blighted, or deteoriated. This in an effort to go forward with the city's plans to revitalize that section of Greenville.
Planning officials say the next step is to approve the areas redevelopment plan and once that is done the city will be allowed to enforce emminent domain, which can force property owners to sell to the city at fair market value. But planning officials say the city is not interested in using that power to force some one out of their home.
The West Greenville revitalization is estimated to take at least eight years to complete.
