After Three Centuries In The Sea...History Surfaces In Beaufort

Wednesday the public got a glimpse of the 11th cannon. Researchers believe it's a part of Blackbeard's flagship, the Queen Anne's Revenge. It ran aground and sank near Beaufort in 1718. The cannon is eight feet long and weighs about twenty five hundred pounds, with several inches of artifacts attached. Researchers think the weapon shot six pound cannonballs.

The cannon will now head to a conservation lab in Greenville, where the restoration and cleaning process will take around five years.
