Suspect Sought In Mall Stabbing

Investigators are searching for a suspect in connection with the stabbing death of a 22-year-old Durham man at a shopping mall Saturday night.

Police identified the victim as Keanan James Odom, who was stabbed during an altercation inside the mall.

A police spokeswoman says Odom died at Duke Hospital after leaving the mall in a private vehicle. Odom was the fourth person killed in or near the mall since 2002.

On Sept. 27 of that year, Tommy Mical Sowell and Lewis L. Patterson died during a robbery attempt in the mall garage.

Police said Sowell held a gun to Patterson in an attempt to rob him.
Patterson shot Sowell as the would-be robber also fired.

In December 2005, Lazarren Tyqwan McLean of Durham was shot to death as he defended his younger sister during a fight on a city bus at the mall.

Lamar Bass was found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
