A Pitt County man, accused of not registering as a sex offender and then skipping town, has been caught in California.
Deputies say Michael Hancock has been on the run since July of 2006.
Members of the Greenville office of the U.S. Marshal Service Violent Fugitive Task Force tracked Hancock from North Carolina to New York, but were unable to find him there.
Authorities say the case remained open and they finally tracked Hancock to a friend's home in San Bernardino. When arrested, authorities say he told them he didn't think they would look for him out in California.
Hancock is awaiting extradition back to North Carolina.
